This Week in the IEC Pool

IEC invitations keep rolling out, with 4,986 new invitations issued since the previous round, according to IRCC’s March 6 update. That brings the total number of invitations issued so far in 2026 to 46,646.

Japan saw the biggest activity this week with 2,438 Working Holiday invitations in its first round. While the UK continues to lead overall with 9,159 invitations issued, it is now close to its annual quota of 9,330

Some countries, including Australia and Ireland, have already received more Working Holiday invitations than their official quotas. However, that does not mean the season is closed or that you can no longer apply. Many invited candidates do not accept their invitation, do not complete their application, or are ultimately not approved, which is why IRCC can continue issuing invitations even after a quota is reached.

There are now 28,404 candidates in the IEC pools and 29,755 spots left. If you’re planning to come to Canada through IEC this year, joining the pool early can increase your chances, since invitations are issued in multiple rounds throughout the season.

This Week’s Read: Can You Activate Your IEC Work Permit Early?

If you’ve received your IEC Port of Entry Letter of Introduction but aren’t ready to move to Canada yet, you may be wondering if you can enter briefly to activate your work permit and return later. This approach, often called a β€œsoft landing,” is usually possible.

However, there are a few important things to know. You still need to arrive prepared with the required documents, including proof of health insurance that covers the full length of your work permit. Your work permit also starts the day it’s issued, even if you leave Canada shortly after.

If you’re considering activating your permit early, planning ahead will help make the process smooth and avoid surprises later.

On Your Radar:Β Waterfall Hikes in Canada

Canada is home to some of the most impressive waterfalls in the world, and exploring them is one of the best ways to make the most of your IEC adventure. Beyond the iconic Niagara Falls, many national parks are perfect places for waterfall hikes.

In B.C., the short trail to Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park brings you to one of the tallest waterfalls in Canada. In Quebec, the La Chute trail in Forillon National Park is an easy forest walk that leads to a beautiful 17-metre waterfall. Both are great options for a scenic weekend hike. And if you’re not near either province, don’t worry – there are great waterfall hikes and waterfall-chasing spots all across Canada.

IEC Life Hacks: In-Demand Jobs in Canada 2026

If you’re job hunting on IEC or getting ready for your move to Canada, it helps to start with roles that are in demand and match your skills. Looking for jobs where employers are actively hiring can make it easier to get your foot in the door and start building experience faster.

In 2026, some of the most in-demand roles include:

  • Administrative assistant

  • Customer service representative

  • Sales associate

  • Warehouse worker

  • Skilled trades roles

For many IEC participants, these kinds of roles can be a practical way to gain Canadian work experience, build your network, improve your resume, and settle into the job market more quickly.

Once you’re working in Canada, it can also become easier to understand the local job market and plan your next career step. And if you’re looking in Montreal, our partner Young Guns is currently hiring warehouse crew members, with additional locations in Ontario, Alberta, and B.C.
