Canada’s Rents Declined Year over Year For 13th Consecutive Month

The average asking rent in Canada was $2,105 in October, down 2.2% from last year. This marks the 13th straight month of annual rent declines, though the drop was the smallest in nearly a year, hinting at a possible slowdown. Rents for purpose-built apartments were steady, falling just 0.7%, while studio condos saw the biggest drop at 14.2%. B.C. and Alberta led the national declines, meaning rent is getting more and more affordable, while Saskatchewan and Manitoba saw modest gains. Vancouver and Toronto rents hit multi-year lows, and shared accommodation costs dropped to a 28-month low, which will be welcome news to many.
