Hey there,

Today, we dig into in-demand roles — looking at:

  • whether foreign credential recognition really is the solution for solving Canada’s labour shortages (since it’s challenging to retain these workers), and

  • what roles are currently most in demand in Canada.

We also share the first in our exciting new three-part savings series, designed to help you master some money habits and mindsets to build your savings as a newcomer.

Enjoy the read,

Your Immigration Update

IRCC’s Website will be down tonight for scheduled maintenance, from 10:30pm on September 24 to 7:30am on September 25 (Eastern Time). You won’t be able to log in during this period. Plus, be sure to clear your cache once the website goes live again.

Why? Because it helps to prevent you from using old, outdated forms (that won’t be accepted by IRCC) and protects your personal information. Learn more about clearing your cache from IRCC directly.

Foreign Credential Recognition barriers may be hampering Canada’s efforts to use foreign workers to address labour shortages across the country. But BC’s recent pilot program for healthcare workers from the US is showing promising signs of success.

We think there’s a bigger question though — will those workers stay? We dig into the different issues of attracting qualified workers, and keeping them, in this article.

Immigration In The Media

Money Matters

We are thrilled to share part one in our three part Savings series, in partnership with Scotiabank. This piece covers a common and heartbreaking financial challenge — the feeling of ‘savings guilt’, which 63% of people in Canada report feeling.

This guide outlines a helpful framework for managing savings guilt, showing how learning about the different types of savings accounts and breaking down your goals into bite-sized pieces can help you on your financial journey.

Learn how to master your savings and overcome savings guilt in this detailed guide.

Career Moves:

We have studied the most recent Jobs Vacancies reporting from Statistics Canada to find Canada’s most in-demand jobs. This information can help guide your career decisions in Canada, so we strongly suggest giving it a read if you’re in the job market or considering studying in Canada.

Today’s Tip: Leaving Canada due to an Expiring Permit? Here’s How to Quit Your Job

If your work permit is expiring and you need to quit your job in Canada, the best approach is to be open and professional with your employer. Let them know as early as possible that your work authorization ends on a specific date, and ask whether sponsorship is an option. In some cases, you may wish to look for another role with an employer who can sponsor you, though these opportunities can be difficult to find in the current labour market.

When resigning, be kind and polite. Explain that you legally cannot continue working but that you value the experience you’ve gained. Let your employer know you’d love to return once your status to work in Canada is restored, and leave on a positive note. Even if a return isn’t possible, maintaining goodwill ensures you have a strong reference for future opportunities when you come back to Canada as a permanent resident.
