Your Immigration Update

The latest student and worker numbers from IRCC are in, and there’s plenty to unpack. July 2025 saw another dip in temporary residents overall, but there are signs of a seasonal rebound in international students and a major jump in temporary residents becoming permanent residents.

These updates matter because IRCC is now releasing monthly data on students and workers in Canada, giving us a clearer view of what’s happening behind the headlines, especially as conversations about temporary residents heat up nationwide.

Canada is rebounding as a top choice for international students, according to the latest survey, but does perception match reality? We explore the opportunities and challenges to help international students decide whether Canada is truly the right destination for them. Read our full article here.

Canada has seen a 34% drop in asylum claims in 2025, thanks to major policy changes, but July brought a record surge of asylum claims. The latest numbers reveal both progress and new challenges shaping Canada’s asylum system. Read the July 2025 asylum update here.

Immigration In The Media

The temporary foreign worker program is still making headlines this week. Yahoo reported yesterday on a letter from The Canadian Chamber of Commerce to the federal government regarding the TFWP. It noted that the program doesn’t seem to be working well for anyone, but that the claims about it impacting youth unemployment are ‘weak’. It went on to say that Canadian youth don’t tend to apply for the jobs occupied by temporary workers, which are often in rural and regional areas.

Money Matters

A University of Waterloo student has created an app to help people in the GTA save money on groceries. Most users have reported savings of $50-$100 a week on groceries, according to its creator. You can learn more about it here.

Career Moves:

Canada’s Job Bank has a Wage Report feature that shows the low, median, and high wage ranges for most occupations — broken down by location. Whether you’re negotiating your salary or reviewing your earning potential across Canada, it’s a quick way to see what you can expect in different regions.

Today’s Tip: Beware of Immigration Scams

RCIC, Kubeir Kamal has warned about a scheme promising a “2-year open work permit” by faking Express Entry profiles, using false work experience, incorrect age, or IELTS scores to get an Invitation to Apply and then applying for a Bridging Open Work Permit.

Warning: This is misrepresentation and can lead to a 5-year ban from Canada.

Bottom line: Don’t be tempted by shortcuts. They can cost you your future in Canada.
