Hey there,

Today saw quite a lot of action on the draws front - with a trades draw, plus a new draw for Manitoba, a scheduled draw for PEI (details will likely come tomorrow), and details from New Brunswick’s August draws finally being published.

Read on to learn:

  • What major changes IRCC might consider for category-based draws;

  • About a recent immigration fraud being litigated in Canada’s courts; and

  • How to stand out in Canada’s more crowded job markets.

Your Immigration Update

Should Canada Eliminate Category-Based Draws? IRCC seems to be considering options for how it conducts category-based draws, since it seems it isn’t quite working as planned at the moment. Options that may be considered include capping the number of candidates for each occupation who would be considered for category-based draws, or excluding over-represented occupations from future draws. More here.

Canada’s politicians are getting vocal about the TFWP, following Pierre Poilievre’s initial calls to end the program. We’ve compiled a detailed list of which politicians are saying what about the TFWP, so you can keep you finger on the temperature towards the program in Canada.

Immigration in The Media

Supplying fake University degrees for immigration fraud is a criminal offence in Australia. But Canada’s system is lagging when it comes to managing fake credentials and other ‘contract cheating’ services provided by unethical immigration providers. Learn more about a recent spate of court cases that uncovered potentially widespread credential fraud in Canada’s immigration system here.

Did Somebody Say Draw?!

  • Today marked the first trades category-based draw for 2025. But the CRS cut-off was the highest ever, which may be disappointing for some eligible candidates. See our analysis here.

  • Manitoba held another large draw, inviting 911 candidates through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba and Skilled Worker Overseas pathways. Get more info from Manitoba’s website (It’s so recent, we haven’t had the chance to cover it yet).

  • New Brunswick just shared details of August draws which invited 1,052 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. More on New Brunswick’s website here.

Money Matters

Today’s Tip: Find Jobs with Fewer Applicants on LinkedIn

LinkedIn has a filter that lets you easily find jobs that don’t already have hundreds of applicants.

If you’re looking for a way to stand out in a crowded job market, filter for jobs with ‘Under 10 applicants’. Just go to the LinkedIn Jobs Board, hit the ‘All filters’ button, then scroll down (quite a long way) to the applicant filter and click on.

Your job feed will look entirely different to before, and you’ll be in a position to apply for roles where you’re an earlier applicant, which can increase your odds.

But remember, don’t just apply using the same resume to every role. Tailored applications are so much better than using the spray and pray approach. Learn more about crafting a tailored resume here.

Thanks for reading! We hope you found this helpful.

Talk to you tomorrow,
