Your Immigration Update
Canada’s new Express Entry points system takes effect today, November 3, 2026.
Under the new Labour Market Integration factor, candidates can receive up to 70 additional CRS points for eligible Canadian work experience or up to 100 points for a qualifying job offer in a high-wage occupation. Candidates receive whichever option gives them more points, not both.
Other key changes include:
No LMIA required for qualifying job offers.
Maximum CRS score increases from 1,200 to 1,270.
Express Entry draws paused for up to two weeks while IRCC recalculates candidates’ scores.
Already in the Express Entry pool? You don’t need to create a new profile. IRCC will automatically update your score, although it could take up to two weeks.
Could Canada be planning to change its language requirements for Express Entry?
Recent IRCC consultations suggested introducing a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 6 across a streamlined Express Entry system.
Adding to the discussion, a new C.D. Howe Institute report recommends raising language requirements, highlighting research that links high English and French skills to higher earnings among immigrants.
While no changes have been confirmed, you may want to focus on improving your English or French skills. Higher language scores, especially CLB 9 and above, could help boost your CRS score, improve your earning potential, and strengthen your chances of Canadian permanent residence.
As stricter immigration rules and uncertainty around permanent residence push some skilled foreign workers to reconsider their futures in the United States, Canada has an opportunity to attract experienced professionals.
In November 2025, Canada announced plans for an accelerated immigration pathway for H-1B visa holders. Almost a year later, the pathway has yet to launch, and no timeline has been confirmed.
IRCC is now exploring how to prioritize H-1B holders through Express Entry in 2027, particularly those working in STEM occupations.
But with skilled professionals already leaving the US, could Canada be missing its chance to attract this talent?
Did Someone Say Draw
On November 2, 2026, Newfoundland and Labrador issued 50 invitations to candidates through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP).
Immigration In The Media
Speaking to the Toronto Star, RCIC Kubeir Kamalraised concerns that Canada's new Express Entry rules could bring back a market for fraudulent job offers.
With additional CRS points now available for qualifying job offers and Canadian work experience, immigration experts warn that some employers and representatives could take advantage of the changes by selling fake job offers or inflating job titles.
IRCC says removing the LMIA requirement won’t weaken its checks and that officers will continue verifying job offers, employment history, and applicants’ qualifications.

With $60 billion in investment expected across 60 major projects, Saskatchewan says it needs skilled tradespeople and technology workers to support its growing industries. The province also has more than 8,000 registered apprentices, its highest number in nearly a decade.
The province's International Skilled Worker: Employment Offer pathway could be an option for eligible workers with a job offer from a Saskatchewan employer.
