Your Immigration Update

HUGE news for those waiting in the pool for a Canadian Experience Class draw. Today’s (very early) CEC round invited 6,000 candidates and delivered a major CRS drop, hitting 520 – the lowest score we’ve seen since July.

Find out more in our detailed analysis of this draw and what we think CEC hopefuls should look out for in 2026.

Ontario just released new research on international student outcomes after graduation, and the results are a mixed bag. Nearly 80% of students from public colleges and universities filed taxes within a year of finishing their studies, and those in health, engineering, and tech were the most likely to earn more and transition to PR.

Outcomes were weaker outside the public system: only 22% filed taxes in their first year, and just 16% became permanent residents within six years. The takeaway is clear that your program and institution can strongly shape your long-term options in Canada.

Immigration In The Media

A new report has revealed that the attitudes of young adults in Canada toward immigration have changed more than usual in recent years – and for the worse. As The Globe and Mail reports in its piece on changing immigration sentiment, 18–29-year-olds are now the most likely to say there is “too much immigration”.

What’s important to remember if you consume this type of media is the overall context. Unfortunately, media and certain politicians across the world use immigrants as a scapegoat for broader social issues. Given that young Canadians are currently struggling with historically high unemployment rates and stagnating wages, it’s unsurprising that attitudes are changing.

The important takeaway is that Canada remains a very welcoming place for newcomers.

Money Matters: Stay One Step Ahead of Holiday Fraud

Holiday shopping, travel plans, endless deliveries – it’s no surprise scammers see December as their favourite season. With so many Canadians distracted, fraud attempts spike, from fake retail sites to phony “urgent” texts.

Scotiabank’s fraud team says the simplest habits make the biggest difference: ignore strange calls, avoid clicking odd links, and never share passcodes or personal details. Quick checks like monitoring your accounts, updating passwords, and verifying who’s really contacting you can save a lot of trouble.

Career Moves:  How to Use Job Bank to Land Your Next Role

If you’re still getting familiar with Canada’s job market, Job Bank is one tool worth using more often – especially for job-seeking newcomers. It’s not just a job board; it also shows wage ranges, hiring trends, and whether your occupation is in demand in different provinces.

You can filter by newcomer-friendly employers, compare salaries across cities, and even explore career paths you hadn’t considered yet. Used consistently, Job Bank gives you a clearer picture of where your skills fit and where your next opportunity might be.

Today's Tip: Rotate Your Pantry

Before your next grocery run, pull older items to the front of your pantry or fridge. It’s a tiny habit, but with grocery prices being such a sore spot for so many Canadians right now, using what you already have can make a real difference.

You’ll waste less food, and save a few dollars without even trying.
